Baby Cows Stabbed in Front of Each Other - Sold as "Humane Meat"
Slaughtering baby cows sounds too cruel to most people, they are only babies after all! However, most people don't know that killing male calves is an essential part of dairy production and a routine practice in all dairy farms.
Cows, like all mammals, naturally produce milk after giving birth, so they can nurse their babies. Without first giving birth, a cow can't have milk. Just like humans or dogs, mother cows eventually stop making milk and will only start making it again if they give birth once more.
Dairy farms, including small and family farms, have to routinely get the cows pregnant so the milk continues to flow. Once the babies are born, they are taken from their mothers so they won't nurse the milk (which the farm is interested in selling).
Why are they slaughtering baby cows?
After being separated from their moms, the male baby cows are slaughtered shortly after. Since male calves from breeds used for dairy production are relatively skinny, it is not profitable to keep them alive for long periods of time.
This undercover investigation by PEA at the slaughterhouse of Moudon in the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland, reveals how baby cows are being killed in front of each other. According to PEA, this facility supplies companies such as HappyMeat, who claim it is an "ethical solution" for meat consumers.
Even though the dairy industry tries hard to hide these horrors from the public, it's important people understand the price baby cows pay for milk and cheese.

Even though it sounds insane, the killing of calves is essential for the production of dairy and meat. The images are hard to watch, but it is vital that people see them.
Due to our desire to drink the milk of cows, dairy farmers tear babies from their mothers for good. Given that cows make milk for their babies, how can we justify this?
