Veganism On A Budget - How Much Vegan Foods You Can Buy With $20
Veganism on a budget is an easy task!
Watch vegan chef Jenne Claiborne, as she gives 8 tips to saving money with a healthy vegan diet! Historically, a plant-based diet was always associated with a low budget, whereas the consumption of meat was seen as a luxury. However, in recent years, there is a stigma that vegan diets are expensive, but it really doesn't have to be!
The healthiest vegan foods are actually extremely affordable everywhere in the world. Basing meals around grains, legumes, vegetables, fruits, and a little nuts and seeds, will allow you to stay within budget while meeting all of your body's nutritional needs.
An example of an affordable meal plan will be to make breakfast from fruits or a big fruit smoothie or to go for oats with some fruits and seeds. Maybe some avocado or jam toasts.
Continuing with 2 main meals that consist of (preferably whole) grains (such as rice, bread, or pasta) or starchy vegetables (such as potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes) + legumes/tofu (such as lentils, chickpeas, beans) +vegetables.
It can be highly beneficial for one's health to incorporate some green leaves such as kale, collard, or even lettuce, so don't be shy about having salads as a meal or on the side. By adding legumes or grains to a salad with lots of leaves and vegetables, you will be able to make a salad that will keep you fulfilled for some good hours.
Possible snacks can be fruit, a handful of nuts, or even some homemade cookies or a simple cake. By baking simple and delicious cakes at home, you will be able to have your cake and not spend a lot of money on it too.
It's important to also add Omega-3 to your diet. This can be done by incorporating flax seeds or chia seeds. Flax seeds should be grounded before consumption so they are absorbed well. However, it's best not to purchase the already grounded flax seeds, but to purchase whole seeds and ground them shortly before consumption. This can be done with a high-power blender or a simple coffee grinder. The ground seeds can be sprinkled on salads, a hot meal, inside baked goods, in a smoothie, and more.
