What happens to hens in the Egg Industry after 1 year of laying eggs? A new video by Animal Liberation exposes how workers in Australia violently beat the hens before they are sent to die in gas chambers.

This is the standard practice of culling "spent" hens in the Egg Industry worldwide. They call it "depopulation": once the hens are about 18 months old, they start laying less eggs. Therefore, they are considered no longer economically profitable. Their fate is then death by suffocation in gas chambers, a method cynically presented by the industry as the most "humane" way of killing these hens.

Unbearable suffering

After being thrown to the floor, beaten and humiliated, hens are locked in crowded gas chambers where they are left to die by suffocation, screaming and desperately seeking a way out.

This cruel practice is executed once a year, whether hens are held in battery cages, free-range or organic farms. The Egg Industry in its whole only sees these birds as mere egg production machines. Whatever the marketing label is, when their egg production slows down, economic interest prevails and hens are dreadfully killed without hesitation.

The only way to oppose this crime is to avoid consuming eggs.
