This shocking video exposes the practice of teeth clipping in baby piglets. The footage was recorded by Mercy for Animals inside a pig farm in Brasil .

Unfortunately, teeth clipping is not the only standard procedure carried in the meat industry against piglets. Cutting holes in their little ears, slicing off their tails and ripping out their testicles are other routine violent acts inflicted upon newborn piglets.

Psychological Torture

All those acts of mutilation are done without any anesthesia, as quick of possible, by underpaid and exploited workers. Additionally, everything is done in front of their desperate and anxious mothers. The mother sow watches what happens to her piglets, she smells their blood and she hears them screaming. In spite of her maternal instinct, she is locked, unable to help and comfort her babies. It’s a real psychological torture for any mother.

Anything to maximize profit

The only thing that the meat industry cares for is profit. This is how they have developed a horrific set of standard procedures, deemed legal in the name of maximizing profit. Teeth clipping of piglets and other practices showed in this video are, sadly, common worldwide.

Why isn't teeth clipping of piglets considered animal cruelty?

All these mutilation procedures save money in the production process to the business owners. That’s why the lobby of the meat industry keeps working hard to make sure that these acts are not considered illegal nor classified as “animal cruelty”. Ironically, when a similar act of cruel violence is committed without an economic motivation, it is seen as unacceptable.
