Baby Goats Killed with a Bolt Gun & Thrown to Trash | Dairy in Australia
Why are healthy baby goats killed with a captive bolt gun and thrown to the trash? Although filmed at Cibus Goats, an Australian dairy farm, this is hardly a case of one cruel farm.
The fate of male baby goats
The tragic reality is that in the dairy business, males are of no use since they can't produce milk. This is why all dairy farms sentence the male babies to death, by either killing them or selling them for slaughter.
Many male babies are born on dairy farms, as female goats must first give birth in order to produce milk. In this video, taken by Farm Transparency Project, we can see a common way of getting rid of the male babies.
Killing baby goats with a captive bolt gun
In this video, we can see how the newly born baby goats are taken from their mothers. Then, the worker starts to shoot each baby goat with a bolt gun, one by one.
The baby goats who were shot are thrown to the side to die from brain trauma. The rest of the babies, remain with them until their turn arrives as well. Then, the babies are thrown into the trash, while their mothers’ milk is taken for human consumption.

Even though it sounds insane, the killing of calves is essential for the production of dairy and meat. The images are hard to watch, but it is vital that people see them.
